If you are wondering why you need braces, read this! Your braces will help correct a problem with your teeth, jaw or both. Your teeth may not line up well, also known as a malocclusion. Skeletal malocclusion is a jaw problem where the upper and lower jaws do not align properly. Dental occlusion is a tooth problem. It means that the teeth are out of line, turned, crowded or spaced too far apart. Many people have both jaw and tooth problems. These malocclusions can give you trouble chewing and biting as you grow. Braces help correct these problems.
The length of time that you will need to wear braces depends on your teeth, your age and how well you cooperate! Making sure to brush and floss well, avoiding hard and sticky foods, wearing your elastics and appliances as directed, doing everything the doctor tells you, and not missing appointments will help speed up your process.
